BCBC FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)

These are some frequently asked questions that we get here at Brooklyn Chinese Baptist Church. If you have a question that you can't find here, please come by or contact us so that it may be answered!

Are there any opportunites to volunteer at the church?

We currently do not require any volunteers. However, if there is an upcoming event that will need volunteers, e.g. Vacation Bible School, we will be sure to announce it on both our website and our Facebook page. We also volunteer outside as a church, such as at soup kitchens like the Father's Heart Ministries. Keep an eye out for these events!

How does Sunday Service run?

It is a bilingual service held in the sanctuary at 11:15 A.M. every Sunday. The sermon message is either delivered in English and translated into Cantonese or vice versa; the pastor and translator will stand side-by-side at the pulpit. English and Chinese lyrics are provided on-screen for all praise songs. The Golden Verse and Scripture Reading will both be read separately in Cantonese, then English. After the message on the first Sunday of the month, the Lord's Supper will be administered.

What does "the first Sunday of every month" mean?

Let's relate this to Thanksgiving. The annual holiday of thanks is held every fourth Thursday of November, but the date always changes, e.g. the 28th this year, and the 27th the next. The first Sunday of the month will have a different date, but it will always fall within the first full week of the month.

What is "The Lord's Supper?"

The Lord's Supper is also called Holy Communion, The Eucharist, the Sacrament of the Altar, and the Blessed Sacrament--terms more commonly used in other denominations. We do this in remembrance of Jesus.

At Brooklyn Chinese Baptist Church, The Lord's Supper is only observed on the first Sunday by those who have been baptized in water. Every month, we take this special time to re-examine our spiritual walks with God as we gather together and remember His last night on earth.

As the church's example, the words of Jesus Christ at His last supper are what we follow. Here is the passage from Matthew 26:26-30 in the New International Version (NIV):

26 While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is my body.” 27 Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. 28 This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. 29 I tell you, I will not drink from this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.” 30 When they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.
